Pumpkin Costume - Size 2T - 3T

Cute Pumpkin Costume I made up with the extra Bernat Blanket Yarn I had leftover from another project.  If you haven't tried this yarn yet, you are really missing out on the softest and coziest yarn.  I love creating projects with this yarn.

My grandson, Gabriel, was more than happy to model this set for me.  All he needs is a pair of brown pants and he is ready to be a "pumpkin" for Halloween...
Pumpkin Costume
Difficulty Level:  Easy

Size: 2T - 3T

Materials:
--10mm hook for hat
--12mm hook for top
--#6 Bernat Blanket Yarn in Pumpkin Spice (220 yd/skein)
--#6 Bernat Blanket Yarn in Sonoma for the trim (optional)
--#5 Bernat Softee Yarn in Soft Taupe for the stem on top of the hat (less than 4 yds)
--#5 Chunky Yarn in Green for the 2 leaves on top of the hat (less than 4 yds)
--tapestry needle for weaving

Stitch Abbreviations:
Ch: chain
Sl St: slip stitch
St: stitch(es)
SC: single crochet
HDC: half double crochet
DC: double crochet
MR: magic ring
FO: fasten off

Directions:
Pumpkin Top (make 2 - front and back):
1.  With 12mm hook, Ch16.  HDC in 2nd ch from hook and across.  Ch1 and turn.  (15)
2-7.  1 HDC in each st across.  Ch1 and turn.  (15)
8.  2 HDC in first st, 1 HDC in the next 13 st, 2 HDC in last st.  Ch1 and turn.  (17)
9.  2 HDC in first st, 1 HDC in the next 15 st, 2 HDC in last st.  Ch1 and turn.  (19)
10.  2 HDC in first st, 1 HDC in the next 17 st, 2 HDC in last st.  Ch1 and turn.  (21)
11.  2 HDC in first st, 1 HDC in the next 19 st, 2 HDC in last st.  Ch1 and turn.  (23)
12-20.  1 HDC in each st across.  Ch1 and turn.  At the end of Row 20, FO and leave a long tail.  (23)

Assembly:
1.  Place right sides together.  For the neck opening, you will whipstitch 2" on each side at the top.  
2.  For the arms, you will whipstitch 2" together down the side.  Skip over 4" for the arm opening.  Whipstitch the remaining 9 1/2" together.  Repeat on the other side.  
3.  Turn right side out.

Border:
1.  With Sonoma (or brown yarn), work 1 round of HDC stitches evenly around the bottom.  FO and weave ends.

Pumpkin Hat:
1.  With 10mm hook, 8 HDC into MR.  Sl st join and Ch1.  (8)
2.  2 HDC in each st around.  Sl st join and Ch1.  (16)
3.  2 HDC in first st, 1 HDC in next st.  Repeat around.  Sl st join and Ch1.  (24)
4.  2 HDC in first st, 1 HDC in next 2 st.  Repeat around.  Sl st join and Ch1.  (32)
5.  2 HDC in first st, 1 HDC in next 7 st.  Repeat around.  Sl st join and Ch1.  (36)
6-11.  1 HDC in each st around.  Sl st join and Ch1.  At the end of Round 11, FO and weave ends.  (36)

Stem:
1.  6 SC into MR.  Sl st join and Ch1.  (6)
2-4.  1 SC in each st around.  Sl st join and Ch1.  At the end of Round 4, FO, leaving a long enough tail for attaching to center top of hat.  (6)

Leaf (make 2):
1.  Ch7.  Sl st in 2nd ch from hook, SC in next ch, HDC in next ch, DC in the next 2 ch and 3 DC in the last ch.  Rotate.  DC in the next 2 ch, HDC in the next ch, SC in the next ch and sl st in the last ch.  FO, leaving a long enough tail for attaching to hat.
